2.

The HKTDC IDT Expo brought together 309 exhibitors from Hong Kong and 24 countries/regions around the world. A wide spectrum of exhibits were showcased on various aspects of technology and design in the Trade Hall under the following themes:

  • Design, Branding and Marketing
  • CreateLand
  • Electronics Technology
  • Photonics Technology
  • RFID
  • Environmental Technology
  • Nanotechnology and Advanced Materials
  • Innovation and Technology Support
  • Technology Institutions
  • Global Innovation
  • Mainland Technology

3.     This year's HKTDC IDT Expo also propelled the public appreciation of design and creativity by launching the new Inspiration Hall. Highlights of the Hall included a display of "crossover" products from the partnership between top Hong Kong designers and international brand names from the brand-new "Project 9707" presented by Hong Kong Design Centre, an Italian design exhibition, a display of lifestyle products and an Ultra Future Exhibition presenting the visions of how we may live, work and engage with each other in the coming decades.

4.     To develop a critical mass, a number of events were synchronised around the HKTDC IDT Expo. Among others, special note were the HKTDC World SME Expo - the Council's annual flagship event for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) around the world, the Business of Design Week (BODW) - a week-long programme organised by the Hong Kong Design Centre to celebrate design excellence and innovation, and the International Conference on Nanotechnology and Advanced Materials.

Overall Results

5.     The results proved that the HKTDC IDT Expo helped to promote Hong Kong as a viable trading platform for business-focused innovative technologies and design services. The total number of visits to the Expo had increased by 17% to 35,803, including 4,048 visitors from the Chinese Mainland and 1,337 overseas visitors from 68 countries/regions, including USA, Canada, Italy, UK, Spain, Australia, Japan, India, Thailand, Malaysia, the Netherlands, etc. The increase in the number of visits reflected that there is a great demand of innovative technologies and design solutions among business people.

6.     The participation of many quality overseas design and technology companies also enhanced the international flair of the Expo. The Design Pavilion showcased some of the world's leading design and creative hubs, including Denmark, France, Italy, Japan, Korea, the Netherlands and Spain. On the technology side, the pavilion featured a wide range of practical technologies by exhibitors from Shenzhen, Shanghai, Taiwan, Singapore, Japan, Korea, Australia, Hungary and the United Kingdom. Special emphasis was put on helping the outward processing enterprises in the Pearl River Delta addressed the ever-growing environmental concern by employing advanced technologies in energy-saving and pollution control.

7.     A survey conducted at the HKTDC IDT Expo showed that the Expo was well received both by the exhibitors and visitors. 92% of the exhibitors rated the Expo from satisfactory to excellent, while 96% of the visitors rated the event either good or excellent.
